Want to find a remote job offer that doesn’t cause a jet lag everyday?

One of the most overlooked concepts you should know is something I call “Time Zone Arbitrage”

When seeking remote job offers, many dream of a bright future: Earning in US dollars and enjoying life in Bali or Southeast Asia, High income, low cost of living—what a wonderful aspiration!

However, the reality is that when living in Asia, we often face various challenges when working with European or American teams/clients. Apart from cultural differences, time zone becomes a significant hurdle.

Imagine having to stay up til 3AM and have a conference call with your clients in US?

I don’t want that. And I am sure no one does.

It does not only ruin my sleep routine, my health, but probably also my relationship since I will get so grumpy if I didn’t have good sleep!

So a job is never just a job. It’s also how you choose to live your life. A lifestyle.

Therefore, when searching for remote opportunities, I have always followed this formula:

Let’s dive in.

My Remote job offer time zone formula: ⏰⌚️

When you’re searching for new remote jobs,

Choose work within a time zone that differs by +/- 3 hours from your own, Ideally, within a 2-hour difference is even better.

Let’s take an example:

As someone who resides long-term in Dali, Yunnan, China, I use China’s time zone, GMT+8.

GMT+8 includes Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia (and Hong Kong too). I can explore job opportunities with higher salaries in Australia and Singapore.

At the same time, it’s also worth considering job opportunities in countries with time zones between GMT+6 and GMT+10 using the formula of 2-hour difference.

And here is my example:

I have a freelance collaboration with a company based in Thailand, Thailand’s time zone is GMT+7, which is one hour behind China’s GMT+8.

As a result, I have never encountered timing issues when scheduling meetings and communicating with this company.

Once you have identified the list of countries suitable for your time zone, Don’t limit yourself to remote job platforms only, You can also search for remote job opportunities on job portals specific to those countries/cities.

Here are some job sites in APAC for you to land a remote job in the tropical paradise:

Singapore and Hong Kong: JobsDB.com

Taiwan: 104.com.tw; 1111.com.tw

Australia: Seek, Indeed, Ethicaljobs.com.au

In Summary
